Hi

It’s been a while, huh? I keep meaning to blog, but well, I knit or draw instead. I’m not actually knitting as much as I have in the past as I’m trying to keep 1 or 2 WIPs OTN instead of 4 or 5. This way I get to use the FO faster, if I remember to block them. Back to the point of this post. Apart from being a knitter and writer, I have a background in film and…

Designer Spotlight: Mary-Anne Mace, The Lace Eater

I can’t remember where I came across Mary Anne Mace‘s designs, but I’m in love. I follow her on Instagram and she knits shawl. The most amazing shawls. I haven’t knit any of her designs, but I need to. The problem is once I start I’m going to need to knit all of them. Most of my favourites, Minarets and Lace, Southern Blue, and Mad Blood, aren’t in her GAL bundle. But Sea Fog is. I love the elegance of…

Designer Spotlight: Mary Annarella of Lyrical Knits

There are two days left for you to get patterns at 25% off as a part of the Indie Designers Gift-a-long and I thought I’d show you some of my favourite designers who are participating over the next day or so. I love knitting cardigans and jumpers* and I love the designs of Mary Annarella of Lyrical┬áKnits. I’ve knit two of her Simplicity cardigans (ideal for Perth spring) and admire many of her others. She always looks so elegant in…

SONY DSC

Design: Bluff Knoll

I don’t get much of a chance to wear beanies here. It’s only cold enough for a brief spell during winter and even then, usually only in the early mornings. I still love knitting and wearing them though. Bluff Knoll is a two colour beanie knitted in two colours of Madelinetosh Tosh DK that I found in my stash and had to use them together and they had to be a beanie. It features a contrast coloured brim and stitch…

Callistemon Set

Design: Callistemon

I don’t often wear beanies, but I do love wearing fingerless mittens, so when I remembered I had two skeins of The Verdant Gryphon’s Traveller in Jackdaw’s Castle (a delicious red) in my stash, I knew I had to have a matched pair. Both patterns use the same stitch pattern, a tiny bowknit. What I love about this stitch pattern is that it looks like it involves slipped stitches and holding your yarn in front, but it doesn’t. It’s all…

Eldwick

Design: Eldwick

I love knitting with Rohrspatz & Wollmeise Lace-Garn. It’s called a lace weight yarn and you’ll find it in Ravelry’s database listed as a lace weight, but in my experience it’s closer to a light fingering weight yarn. This gives it an amazing versatility. I’ve knit at 27 sts/10cm (4 inches) with it and up to 20 sts/10 cm (4 inches) and it works brilliantly at both. I have amassed quite a stash of this yarn. What I love the…

Cottesloe Days - convertible scarf version

Design: Cottesloe Days

I grew up near the beach. Within walking distance of it. I now live much further away, but I miss the constant smell of salt in the air. Cottesloe Days is named after one of the local Western Australian beaches, and is inspired by striped beach towels. Cottesloe Days is knit using a fingering weight yarn and is designed so you can use as many or as few colours as you wish. While the versions I made are long, it’s…

Vexilology - Shawl

Design: Vexillology

I have a confession. I love knitting big ass shawls. These are not just your average shawl, or your big shawls. This are BIG shawls. And I love designing them. My friend Nikki of Dark Harbour Yarns (DHY) lives in New Zealand and dyes some amazing yarn in colours I often find myself needing. So when I had a the idea for Vexillology, she provided the yarn for the shawl version. Vexillology is a fingering weight design in an elongated…

Pepperberry Cowl

Design: Pepperberry Cowl

It seems I’ve been a bit lax in showing off my self-published designs. So while the Indie GAL sale is going on, I thought I’d go back through my included designs.   The Pepperberry Cowl is the first pattern I self-published on Ravelry. It’s a fingering weight cowl that uses three colours, but you could use anything from two to as many colours as you want. I happened to have a need for using Madelinetosh 80/10/10 Fingering in Astrid Grey,…
