It seems I’ve been a bit lax in showing off my self-published designs. So while the Indie GAL sale is going on, I thought I’d go back through my included designs.
The Pepperberry Cowl is the first pattern I self-published on Ravelry. It’s a fingering weight cowl that uses three colours, but you could use anything from two to as many colours as you want. I happened to have a need for using Madelinetosh 80/10/10 Fingering in Astrid Grey, Pop Rocks and Edison Bulb. I needed it BRIGHT.
It does require two techniques to make it work. A provisional cast on and the accompanying Kitchener Stitch graft, and intarsia. Neither of these is that difficult, just fiddly if you haven’t done them before. The pattern includes an intarsia tutorial if you haven’t worked this before. Once you get the hang of it, it’s really a matter of keeping track of your tension when you change colours. But the result is worth it.
What you can’t see in the photo above is that you’re using two textures. There a wide section of garter at either edge and the centre section is stockinette. This helps to stop it roll and adds some textural interest. Plus I like it this way.
This cowl is named after a native Australian berry.
